Lillian Kilbourne papers, 1880-1903 (bulk 1880-1894).

The collection consists primarily of personal letters Kilbourne received when she was teaching in Clinton and Bayou Sara, Louisiana. Correspondents are relatives and friends from Clinton, Wilson, and Bayou Sara. They relate news of friends and family, social activities, school activities and studies. Many are from Kate Scott, a student at Silliman Institute and resident of The Shades Plantation near Wilson, Louisiana. A yearbook, Donnybrook Fair: Class of '99 (Baltimore, 1898) lists Lillian Kilbourne as a senior.

James Gilliam Kilbourne, planter, jurist, Louisiana legislator, Confederate captain, and member of the law firm Fuqua and Kilbourne, was born in Hinds County, Miss. He moved to East Feliciana Parish, La., in 1838, attended Centenary College in Jackson, La., married Almena Leonora Perkins in 1851, and had ten children.
